Panel Discussion: ‘Technological Innovation in Higher Education.

Among the challenges facing 21st-century teaching practices are the use of emerging strategies and technologies to motivate learning, reforms to traditional working schemes, and a shift from an education process traditionally centered around the teacher to one focused on the student.

On April 27 at 14:00 hrs (UTC), the University of Galileo (Guatemala), a partner in the PROF-XXI project, will host a panel discussion titled ‘Technological Innovation in Higher Education: How to Assist Teachers in Providing High-Quality Remote Instruction?’

This panel will feature the participation of renowned experts from leading higher education institutions with extensive experience in this subject matter.

Meet the Experts

Dr. Oscar Jerez – Director of the Teaching and Learning Center, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Chile.

Ph.D. in Psychology and Education. Consultant and advisor for government and higher education entities on innovation, ICT, curriculum and faculty development, and quality management in Latin America, Europe, and Africa. He currently serves as the director/founder of the Teaching and Learning Center at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Chile.

Dr. Fabio Reis – Director of Innovation and Networks at SEMESP and President of the STHEM Consortium, Brazil.

Ph.D. in Social History and Professor at Unisal, Director of Innovation and Cooperation Networks at SEMESP, President of the STHEM Consortium in Brazil, and Executive Secretary of MetaRed Brazil. He currently serves as the Director of Innovation at Unicesumar.

Dr. Miguel Morales – Director of the Digital Education Area, University of Galileo, Guatemala.

Ph.D. in Information and Knowledge Engineering from the University of Alcalá de Henares, Spain. He holds a Master’s degree in e-Learning Management and Production from the Carlos III University of Madrid. He currently coordinates the production of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and MicroMasters for Galileo on edX and directs educational innovation projects.

This event has been organized within the framework of the PROF-XXI Project, which aims to develop management and innovation capacities in higher education professionals. The purpose of this panel discussion is to share the vision of the future of higher education and highlight the significant shift in the educational paradigm. It will examine the types of resources, tools, learning strategies, training, and essential technology needed to support quality remote instruction.

This panel will reflect on and answer questions such as:

  • How should higher education be based on the lessons learned during the pandemic?
  • How can teaching and learning processes be innovated through the use of technology?
  • What are the challenges that educators face in ensuring academic continuity with quality?
  • How are universities preparing for the post-pandemic scenario?
